Our Teachers
Our teachers are carefully selected for their educational background, experience and sensitivity to the individual needs of the young child. All staff members at EMP are trained in CPR/First Aid. All staff members have background checks, are fingerprinted and take 15 hours of continuous professional development courses annually.
Jeanann Johnson
Jeanann Johnson has been the Director and Teacher at EMP for 40 years. For the past 20 years she was a host parent to International college students studying at Denver University or Arapahoe Community College. The students were from Korea, Japan, Indonesia and the Middle East. She is a past member of the advisory board of the global ambassadors for Denver University. She has eight grandchildren. Her degrees are from Colorado Woman's College and Fort Hays State University. Her hobbies include crafts, gardening, walking and travel.
Maureen Elley
Maureen Elley is the Assistant Director at EMP. This is her 22th year at EMP. She offers an exciting learning experience for preschoolers. Her home state is New York. She has three grown children and four grandchildren. She teaches S.S. at church and is Director qualified. She received her degree from SUNY, Plattsburgh, NY in elementary education. Her hobbies include reading and walking.
Maggie Seccombe
Maggie Seccombe has been with EMP for 8 years. She has two college-aged kids and feels blessed to have them attending school nearby. She is a gratuate of Colorado State University. Since she and her husband are both Denver natives, they enjoy lots of time with a large extended family. Her hobbies include gardening, crafts and reading.
Our Teaching Assistants
Lindy Curry
Lindy Curry is the Teacher Assistant in the Monday, Wednesday and Friday class. She has one daughter who attended EMP. She has a kind and gentle way with children and worked at EMP 10 years ago as well. This is her third year back working at EMP. Lindy studied Early Childhood Education at Siskyous Community College. Lindy is a writer and has published her book, A Tiger by the Tale and Other Stories from the Heart of Korea. She incorporates her passion for folktales into activities at EMP as a storyteller. Her hobbies include storytelling, music (playing the harp) and sewing.
Licensing and Associations
EMP is licensed by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Child Care and is evaluated annually.
EMP is a memer of the Colorado Association for Education of Young Children.
The preschool is a community outreach of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and has served the in this capacity for 40 years. Over 1,757 families and preschoolers have attended.
EMP is a community provider for the Denver Preschool Program, which offers tuition discounts.
EMP is also a rated Qualistar preschool and is reevaluated every two years.
